About Smart Buying Tips

We are a small, independent publication for thoughtful shoppers. We do not rank products. We do not score brands. We do not earn a single penny if you buy something we mention. What we do, slowly and carefully, is write the kind of explainers that help a person understand a product category before they spend.

Why this publication exists

Most shopping content on the internet is written to convert a click into a sale. That is fine for the publishers who run it, but it is not what shoppers usually need at the start of a search. By the time most of us look something up, we are not chasing the “best” product, we are trying to figure out what the words on the box mean, what is going to break in two years, and whether the cheaper option is actually fine for what we need.

Smart Buying Tips was built for that earlier moment. The one before a recommendation matters.

Who we help

If you are someone who reads three reviews and ends up more confused than when you started, this site is for you. If you are about to make a purchase you cannot easily reverse, a mattress, a laptop, an appliance, a car seat, we want to be useful to you in the hour before, not the minute after.

We write for first-time buyers, careful spenders, parents, students, people on a budget, and anyone who has ever stood in a shop holding two products and silently wondered “wait, is this really worth twice as much?”

Our editorial philosophy

Three principles guide every article we publish.

How we write

  • Plain language first. If a sentence sounds like it came from a press release, we rewrite it.
  • Uncertainty is normal. Where the answer is “it depends,” we say so, and explain on what.
  • Calm beats urgency. No countdowns, no “don’t miss out,” no panic. A shopper in a hurry is a shopper who overspends.

How we research

Every article begins as a question the editor couldn’t answer themselves. We then spend a week or two reading manufacturer documentation, regulatory filings, peer-reviewed material studies, repair-shop forums, and occasionally calling shops directly. Where we can verify a claim, we verify it. Where we can’t, we say what the limits of our information are.

We do not cite other review sites as primary sources, because the figures in those reviews usually came from manufacturer data we can cite directly. We’d rather quote the source than the secondhand summary.

What we publish, and what we don’t

We publish category explainers, material breakdowns, hidden-cost analyses, durability writing, and gentle critiques of how products are sold. We don’t publish brand rankings, “best of” lists, scored reviews, or any article in which a specific SKU is held up as a winner. Those formats are useful to other publications; they aren’t the kind of thing we know how to do honestly.

The person behind it

Smart Buying Tips is written by Ashish Tiwari, who runs the editorial desk. He writes plain-language explainers about consumer products, materials, and the small habits that shape how households spend. His full bio and every article he has written live on his author page. We list a real name and a real face because we believe accountability is a feature, not a flourish.

What we promise our readers

Our commitments
No sponsored articles. No AI-generated copy passed off as editorial. No quiet edits without a correction note. No reader email shared, sold, or rented, ever. If we get something wrong, we say so on the article itself, with the date the correction was made.

If you want to write to us

Reader questions shape a real share of what we cover. If there is something you wish a publication would explain clearly, please send our editors a note. We read every message, and we reply to most within a working week.
